The Education and Training Center centrally manages administration of all education and training matters at Hanscom AFB. It supports long-range Air Force goals for maintaining a high quality force and enhancing professional and personal development, recruitment, retention, and readiness. 

The center offers some of the most advanced methods of training available. Students not only participate in traditional classroom instruction but may also take advantage of live satellite-delivered interactive video instruction. The co-located Base Training Office assists unit personnel in training for mission related functions, and also manages the Career Development Course program as well as conducts staff assistance visits.

ACADEMIC COUNSELING

CAREER ASSISTANCE ADVISOR

Do you have questions about your Air Force career? Our Career Assistance Advisor can advise you of your options prior to making a decision about separating or staying in the USAF. We educate you on the benefits and entitlements you and your family receive while on Active Duty. Classes offered include: Informed Decision Seminars, NCOPE, SNCOPE, and First Term Airman Course (FTAC).

Options may include:

  • Re-enlistment
  • Palace Chase (Air Force Reserve / Air National Guard)
  • Retraining into another career field

COMMUNITY COLLEGE OF THE AIR FORCE

Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) is the largest community college in the World and offers job-related Associates in Applied Science degrees and other academic credentials to the enlisted force. Airmen can fulfill general education requirements through civilian colleges, CLEP exams, and DSST exams. The test code for CLEP exams is 6139 and the DSST code is 7992. Official transcripts must be sent directly to CCAF in order to be applied to CCAF. Check with your school for any applicable fees.

GI-BILL

For approved programs, the Post-9/11 GI Bill provides up to 36 months of education benefits, generally payable for 15 years following your release from active duty. Institutions of higher learning participating in the Yellow Ribbon Program may make additional funds available for your education program without an additional charge to your GI Bill entitlement.

The following payments may also be available:

  • Monthly housing allowance
  • Annual books and supplies stipend
  • One-time rural benefit payment

TESTING

The Education and Training Center oversees administration of the Defense Language Test Program to include Defense Language Aptitude Battery (DLAB), and the Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT); the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI), Career Development Course, Professional Military Education Exams, and the Armed Forces Classification Test (AFCT/ASVAB). These services are only available to Active Duty, Reserve, or Guard personal, and in some cases dependents, GS/NAF employees and Retirees.

Requests for EOC and PME testing must be submitted 48 hours before requested date. Some tests require a request form be completed prior to being scheduled, the form must be submitted a minimum of three (3) days before requested test date. Testers should arrive 15 minutes early. A valid military ID is required for all tests and will be checked before testing begins. For testing schedule inquiries or questions about testing, please contact Hannah Germain at the e-mail listed above.

TUITION ASSISTANCE

The Air Force Tuition Assistance (TA) program is designed to help active duty personnel pursue voluntary, off-duty educational opportunities. Currently, the program pays 100% (up to $250 per semester hour or equivalent) of the cost of college tuition with a limit of $4,500 per fiscal year. Courses and degree programs may be academic or technical and can be taken from two- or four-year institutions on base, off base or online. To qualify to TA, members must be active duty, activated guard reserve, or on active duty orders. All First-Time Tuition Assistance users are required to have had an initial tuition assistance briefing. Members inactive in pursuing education for more than one year are required to receive a follow-up briefing. Please call the education and training center to schedule an appointment.

Applying for TA

You must apply for Tuition Assistance online using the Air Force Virtual Education Center. This must be done through the Air Force Portal at https://www.my.af.mil/.
